CALENDAR OF EVENTS

TOMODACHI CLUB

The Tomodachi Club is a daytime women's cultural exchange group established in October 1981 under the sponsorship of the Japan-America Society of Georgia (JASG) to promote friendship, cultural exchange and understanding among Japanese and American women. Today the club has close to 60 members in two membership categories: Active members who attend both General and Small Group meetings, and Support members who attend only General meetings.

General meetings and Small Group meetings alternate on a monthly basis from September to May. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month, except September and January, in which they are held on the second Wednesday. Occasionally dates may change due to special circumstances. General meetings are held in September, November, January, March and May, and may include a luncheon with program, an interesting field trip, or a special event. Small group meetings are held in the alternate months of October, December, February, and April, usually in members' homes, and may include a coffee or luncheon with an activity of interest to the group, a program, demonstration or discussion.

Tomodachi Club activities are governed and organized by four volunteer Co-chairs, usually two Americans and two Japanese. Leadership changes are made alternately in order that one American and one Japanese co-chair remain with experience and knowledge to pass on to the new Co-chairs. The Co-chairs plan and organize the activities for the General meetings. Each Small Group has a leader selected by the member of the group and together they plan and organize their activities.
